This 2011 series held in & around Coffs Harbour in NSW.
Have just resigned contract for 2013 Rally Australia, date tbc
I will be there. A great spectator sport. No crash fence like F1 to separate the cars & the spectators. Just fast cars and lots of dust, in Australia especially. And the small stones of course if you don't go to the FIA $anctioned $eating. Tog standing next to me had his UV filter broken but no damage to the lens. Inside of the corner has less stones, but the flying stones improve the image.
Unlike circuit racing, you only have 1 go at capturing the image, so having the gear ready (and protection from the dust) is important. f2.8 lens is preferred as less light in forest. A 70 - 200mm f2.8 lens plus a fast focussing DSLR is ideal for this event. But I don't have one. So I use my "airshow" lens, a 100 - 400mm. I used the broad + pattern with AI servo on my 7D. You can bag it & the lens to reduce dust ingress & vaccuum after the event to remove any dust. Do not use a blower brush, wrong tool.
