Brush Tailed Possum

Ryde, NSW, Australia view map

This brush tailed possum was not afraid of people and could be hand fed fruit. My nephew could pat him but those razor sharp claws were off putting to me.
Amazing sense of balance; could walk from the power lines [possum highway], then onto my telephone or powerline to the roof of my house to get access to the tree in the rear of my yard.
The telephone line in particular would swing maybe + or - 20 degrees and he would just keep walking.

He was a visitor every night for about 3 years. His ratty ears were the result of territorial fights with other male possums. A distinctive feature on this particular possum.

If I sat out on the back porch after dinner to eat a piece of fruit, I had to share.
I ignored him only once.
He walked over & bit me on the big toe ever so gently then looked up at me.
He got his piece of fruit.
Yes I did miss him just a bit when he stopped coming around.
