"Eat My Dust" was the local newspaper headline of the days reporting of this event. Rain in the Coffs Harbour region in June & early July but nothing since. Dry as a Dingo's donger as they say. Dust everywhere & caking onto everything. Spectacular to look at & take photos of but an absolute pain to clean off later. I had a ziplock bag over my camera body & part of the lens but it still penetrated where rain on previous occasions had not. And this fine red dust sticks to everything. Any white clothing is stained permanently.
The WRC drivers all used a technique of entering the corner sideways under brakes facing into the corner & then accelerated in a straight line through the corner for maximum acceleration to reduce times. This resultingt in tearing out the maximum amount of dirt out the gravel road & throwing up huge rooster tails of dirt. Spectacular but tough on spectators!!!
