As far as I know I am the last living Buchanan who was born on the Buchanan Plantation in Warren County, North Carolina. I was born and grew up with my Grandfather Walter Buchanan and my parents Ernest H. and Ruby W. Buchanan. I was the seventh of the Children: Irene Temple, Ernest, Jr. Atwood Alease, Ruby Mae, James Gray, Francis Pettiway, Robert Sterling, Barbara Jane and Stewart Landis. My father farmed and ran a barber shop in the village of Drewry. We had a happy, wonderful life with dear friends and relatives. I cherish every memory of my childhood and hope to buried in Warren County soil at Mount Auburn Christian church near Drewry.

I am one of the Buchanans who grew up across the road from the store. Wonderful memories of squeezing a penny in front of the candy counter making a decision between three Mary Janes, apenny Baby Ruth or a Bat sucker!! Bat sucker usually won because it would last longer!Store was built in the 1880s by my Great Grandfather.
