A moment at Bizaansgat

I have dug out a series of images I still took with my Sony F707 (blushes as yes I thought that was the bees knees in those days) when we cycled in the Karoo but with all the new techniques I have learned from you guys I shall try and clean them up and post somewhat later. Like I told Steve, we were invited to this guys farm and from a koppie looking in each direction as far as belongs to him. Amazing place. Its on the so called forgotten road from Ceres to Sutherland. 2 houses on this 150 km stretch. Directions given to me were “precisely 100 kms from the Ceres police station turn left at the big rock. Now in the karoo when the sun goes down there is no, and I mean no light. No noise no light. So eerie that its scary and makes my skin crawl. Beautiful feeling. Stopped to take a leak(beers were flowing with my MTB mates) and switched car lights off. Literally could not see in front of me. niks. Sat waiting for ET to land. Anyhow 100 kms later if it was not for the fact that Dawie and Paulie were braaing and had fire going we would have ended up in Sutherland. Went to look for Big rock next morning and it was……………yup the size of a soccer ball. Karoo humour, go figure.
Nope the images are not the best but would like to share them with the guys that were there 4 years ago. Yes there is the odd HDR to rescue some.

This included a visit to the Obsevatory in Sutherland.

About Sutherland

Gateway to the universe ....... that is what they call Sutherland. Land of snow and stars.
The coldest place in the Republic. The place where you find the largest telescope in the Southern Hemisphere....... a telescope so powerful that one could see a candle flame on the moon. When you take the tar road from Cape Town , you turn off at Matjiesfontein, the famous English Karoo town with its splendid museum, then another 110 km and you reach Sutherland ..... not only famous for its Observatory but also for its pure , fresh air …... fresher than anywhere else in the world!
