April Fools

Rancho Bernardo, CA

The First of April now having passed by requires that I admit to faking the apparent damage to my lens on yesterday’s PaD. Dan took beautiful care of it, and there are no problems.

For the technically minded, I selected the front part of the lens in Photoshop and then used the liquefy tool to bend the edges. Then after selecting just the glass in front, I pasted in an image of a broken window and used a blend mode (hard light I think) to make it look real.

In real life I stumbled once years ago and my camera fell onto its 28-135 lens which broke a piece of the plastic on the front, but did no apparent harm. Di Barton now has the lens and has used it I believe without problem for over three years.

Canon EOS 5D ,FD 15mm/f2.8 Fisheye
1/15s f/4.0 at 15.0mm iso400 full exif

other sizes: small medium large original auto

Very clever, Robin. A composition worthy of your sense of humor.

I forgot to mention, there are no scratch marks or missing paints on the edge of the rim of the lens. HAHA!
Big vote though for a great PS!

See, what I told you? It is all an April Fool's Joke of Robin. How'd I know? Because thin piece of metal that fell on the ground will not look that way, (rippled). Another give away is the impact cracked glass DOES NOT match the rippled rim. HAHA!

You did well fooling us all and crying for the lens and not wanting to say anything to Dan. Good for you.
Gail Davison02-Apr-2008 22:30
so the funeral is off. haha

I'm so glad it was all a ruse. I was worried all night, tossing, turning, worrying about the wrath of Robin on poor Dan.
Herb 02-Apr-2008 22:02
Oh well

Ha! You scoundrel. I got sucked into the fray too. I was a bit curious though of the rippled edges on the top and the yellow on the glass. Nonetheless, you fooled us all. And here we assembled a large cash donation for a new lens. Now what?
Zak02-Apr-2008 20:07
well ha ha!
