The Big Bet

San Diego, CA

This is one of those images that did not come out like I had hoped, however I’m going to stick with it even though it combines some snatched shots from the internet along with my playing cards.

The point I want to make is that the BIGGEST spending and most extensive TV ads for Super Tuesday here in California are about the extension of Indian Gaming – not the nominees. At stake is a 9 Billion dollar fund increase for the CA budget over the next decade. Increasing gambling is a big issue and there are strong debates on both sides of the issues.

"I never have taken a picture I've intended. They're always better or worse." ~Diane Arbus

At least gambling is a voluntary tax--unless one is addicted...

Interesting issue.
I have lived places where there was no legal gambling permitted.
Many people bet anyway... without the government's permission.
Smart governments arrange to get tax from that activity.

I like your image a lot. Nice composite. As for gambling, does a lot of damage too. I have a friend who works as a nightshift manager at one of the casinos. Some people go there and lose everything. Happens quite often she says.

Thinking about getting a commercial job Robin?

Not sure where I'm putting my money yet.
Maybe back in the bank!

Ans yes, I do know that is a selfish concern!

The biggest issue for ME is whether I get a shot of Hilary going to her polling place. I want that bad.

Good job; I listened to two commercials about this issue in the last five minutes.

Interesting composite work, Robin. But I have "no comment" on the issue. I'm only following the presidential candidates.

Quite a concern here, with the tribe and problems associated lobbying, does it really help their own?

I am always amazed at the amount of money that is spent on political advertsising in te USA

Very interesting composite. I am so tired of those TV commercials!! Can't wait until Tuesday.

This is a quote from the L.A. Times: "The compacts dictate that the state get at least $3 billion from the four tribes’ casino business over the next 22 years. Whether it gets more depends on how much, and how quickly, the tribes expand their casinos and whether their customers keep new slot machines busy."
