Battle Mountain

Rancho Bernardo, CA

You wouldn’t know if you didn’t know.

Tonight the 25 miles drive up I-15 from the airport had the usual traffic jams and highway construction. There was no indication of fire damage anywhere. Rancho Bernardo Heights at the south end of RB looked normal. The first clue was north of RB road where I saw a burned hillside (lower left) Then there was this surprising view of Battle Mountain, completely denuded with the cross also missing. The fire roared down that hill and crossed the 15 lane freeway. Finally, at the end of my block the home on the lower right was the first structure damage I saw.

That is it. All I could see. This not to minmize the hundreds of people who were burned out . It just was not obvious driving in to my home. I’ll take a longer look in the daylight tomorrow. Now I better start cleaning up the soot and ashes in my home which are not too bad.

Thank God your house was spared, Robin. I remember photos you took of that mountain with the cross on top. (P.S.-don't wet the soot--it makes it worse.)

It is hard to see the full extent of everything at once. Glad you got home safely and hope that the cleanup is not to hard. Take care and welcome home!
