Evening Colors

Rancho Bernardo, CA

I'm quite interested in your reaction to this image. The late afternoon light and the colors attracted my eye, yet I think the subject is way to busy. Please let me know.

Hmmmm, being that I like, low light & shadowy it's a bit hot for me. However as Gayle said...it's the nature of the plant & your focus is excellent.

A hard shot to make in evening light Robin. I like the way you focused of the side of the plant . Like the dof also.

I guess I'll go against the grain. I think the shot is too saturated, and yes, too busy. I also think it's a VERY difficult subject to photograph well. (For instance, I've yet to get a good photo of a red rose in a natural setting.) The light here looks harsh rather than the usual "golden hour" kind of light. Hey, you asked! :-)

Beautifully shot. I like the color composition, but I agree with you in that it is a little busy. But that is the way life is sometimes. :)

Such vivid colors. I like this. It is busy, but so's this plant.

The beautiful light and vibrant oranges against a beautiful green background overrides compositional concerns that this is "too busy".Lots to look at in these interesting flowers.

I think it does well here. The shades are perfectly separated. One of my first PBase photos was when I climbed a fence on St. Charles Avenue to get a photo of this plant.

I like it , what was your question ?

I have Pride of Barbados in my garden and I am always disappointed with my efforts to photograph them. I have never had the late afternoon light on them because there is a tree shading them when the sun goes down. I like this very much, now I want that light.

I always try to experience what the photographer saw in a shot when it was taken.
Here, if you didn't already tell me, I would have shared your appreaciation of the great light and vibrant colors, not to mention the nicely muted background.
I find nothing wrong with a busy shot. This shot was busy:http://www.pbase.com/rtwo/image/85619619
And it was still great.

Nature itself is complex and "busy". Many times it tough to capture warm/hot colors such as orange and red. You did it well in this image.

I also love the light. And yes, there is a lot going on. I would probably have tried to crop to the right to get that bottom blossom tucked into the corner and create more negative space left but I don't know what you had to work with. Great job. V
