The Man

San Diego, CA

I am appreciating the comments about this image. I felt very mixed about posting it. Danny’s recent comment, “There but for the grace of God go I” helps me feel better about, because I could have been there too. I escaped the clutch of alcohol 19 years ago!

Photographically this is what Diann calls a combat shot. My driver (G. Winters Limousine service) noticed him as we drove by at about 20 mph. It says a lot about the “L” lens and the 5D that I could pull this off. See original below.

I hate when you catch me off-guard.

How do you know he's drunk? Isn't that an empty milk carton at his feet? Perhaps he was just tired and needed a nap.

Good image, and quite a crop from the 5D

Powerfull indeed, but who knows that he is drunk.
Many a homeless person will sleep on a bench, people with homes too.
I'm not trying to be funny but you can't
jump to conclusions.
Again, a powerfull image, nice tight crop.

Great net working, you, your L lenswith 5D and ofcourse your great friend G W.
About the alcohol, what a terrible illness, we must consider ourself blessed for not being trapped in alcohol, and we could help the new generations to keep out of the alcohol and this imahe tells a lot, good one!!
Voted!!

Oh Robin, this is indeed a strong photo and I understand your reluctance completely. I think it is a sobering shot and I am glad you posted it but I do wrestle my conscience with such subjects

I'd say you and the G Winters Livery service both get a vote.
One of your top 3 Robin.

July 27, 1987 for me Robin. Thanks for posting this.
Gary Winters01-Jun-2006 21:55
You forgot to tip the limo driver.

And -- you owe me for spotting this poor fellow.

That said, you did the hard work -- composing, processing, etc. Good job and it's a POWERFUL image.

I always feel too uncomfortable to take these pictures, but the end result is justifiable to make us realise how lucky most of us are.

Thanks for sharing

The container is milk, contents was liquor ;o) Excellent choice to show the image in black & white. It softens the impact of reality. Voted!!!
