February 3: SP Friday

Rancho Bernardo, CA

Number 3 in a series of 7 “one-shot” PaDs intended to sharpen my eye during composition and to encourage thoughtful and considered exposure settings.

The main thing I learned today was what a pain the painting on the wall turned out to be. I felt it had to burned out. I give myself a C minus for my lack of great success there. And my composition didn’t really get all the color and the drama of another Willmore book plus the Starbucks. However I felt a tight crop was much stronger than the longer view. See the original below. To its right is my “alternate” SP.

The real story is that two of Ben Willmore’s books came last evening. I was so impressed by his one-day NAPP seminar last November, that I decided to pursue more good ideas from him. This book I’m holding is beautifully done in layout and color, and it has already answered questions for me that I didn’t know I had. ;-)

Keep it up, Robin. The more you learn, the more we learn from you.

Good reading. :) I just realized I have not had a SP in a while!

Nice one Robin. Your challenge for yourself really is a difficult one. I like both versions but I think I would have been more partial to the wide angle view if you had not been so centered in the frame. Willmore is inspiring, eh? I haven't read his stuff in a while but he always was good.

SPs are hard enough but to throw the one shot deal into it is darn near impossible. I commend you. Thanks for the book info too, reminds me my Napp enrollemnt just expired. Might wait until I need something from B&H. Love that free shipping.

I'll be expecting a summary of what you've learned.

Like the crop. Robin, you look so serious here. Are you worried about how the SP will turn out? ;-)

Nice SP
Ben's books are really good - My favorite is his Photoshop CS Studio Techniques - he also did an "up to speed" that covered just CS2 features which was excellent!

I see how you get day by day experience in using the camera settings combined with post processing. You can create also a Blog on that... Your experience is very interesting and challenging for some of us. Thank you for sharing it!
