January 29: Vinyl Memories

Rancho Bernardo, CA

Many of you born in the latter part of the last century may not even know what these are!!

Well, let me tell you Ladies and Gentlemen, these three covers reflect a small part of my 1000 plus collection of LP records (circa 1965 – 1980) which are stored along the bottom of my entertainment unit (see below).

Next week as I undertake the remodel of my den, this unit will be replaced with a new one. These records have to go. I wonder what I should do with them!?

Canon EOS 5D ,Canon EF 17-40mm f/4L USM
1/50s f/4.0 at 17.0mm iso400 full exif

other sizes: small medium large original auto

Two thoughts, Robin........Use them for wall (ceiling?) decorations. I've seen this done effectively, although, as I think about it, you don't have that much wall space in the den. OR, go the e-bay route, but save the precious ones on CD/DVD using Roxio's Spin Doctor software. I presume it will work on the likes of a Windows machine. BTW, what was wrong with the old entertainment center? It seemed fine to us!

I still have mine, and being the hoarder that I am, I have no plans for disposal!
I actually have two copies of S&G, I wanted one scartch-free. The same goes for Rumours.

I took all mine to a second hand store (well before the mp3 era!). I felt sad at the time but I haven't missed them - life moves on. Digital rocks anyway! (Don't be too optimistic what they will sell for, but best of luck)

Donate to me pls.!!!! I will take good care of them!!! :D

I had two of the three. Garage Sale!

Before e Bay, try to convert then into mp3 and keep then digitally, after that you could go into eBay
Pepe Zyman30-Jan-2006 06:28
Keep them!

But if you remain at a loss as to what to do with them, you could always just toss a stamp on them and ship them here to me.
snootydog30-Jan-2006 04:15
No No, don't do it Robin. I tossed all of mine when I was similarly remodeling and now I regret it. I had some awesome memories living between the scratches of some of those old vinyls

They would be the last things I got rid of. There would be collectors out there itching to get hold of the covers alone.

I don't have the Clyburn one, but I got the other two =)
why do they have to go???

I'm with Gary. Ebay will pay for your new e-center. The SG album remains one of my faves.

Wonderful image! This looks like a wonderful collection.

I have a box full of those too!! Actually have the same Simon and Garfunkel album!! ;-) A fun shot that brings back fond memories!
Guest 29-Jan-2006 23:44
All of my mom and dads 45's are melted in the rafters. However I do know who Simon and Garfunkel are, good music. :)

Oh, for the record the Navy Seal lost in my PAD, not much one can do when up against a shotgun in a doorway. :(

Some great music Robin and I agree about EBay.

Very nice collection, Robin. I have stacks of all 45s and albums too. Ebay would be an answer, if you had the patience.
Gail Davison29-Jan-2006 20:50
I agree .... ebay. I too have a stash of vinyl (nowhere near the size of your stash though). I never play them but can't bring myself to part with them either!

I preferred Philippe Entremont, Thelonius Monk, Coltrane, Johnny Hartman. Try Lou's Records, 434 N Coast Highway 101, Encinitas. I thought you would tell us how to simply and easily, in a cost effective manner, digitally preserve all those vinyls before we unloaded. ;-)

try a local record shop! not one of the chains, one of the specialist, second hand record chains... you might find they'll give you a price for the whole lot, so be sure of the value of any special ones - stuff like that... oh, thats what I did with my 400 before we moved!
Zak29-Jan-2006 19:08
what are records? ;-)
Di29-Jan-2006 18:46
Yep, try ebay.
Di29-Jan-2006 18:46
Yep, I'd try Ebay.
Gary Winters29-Jan-2006 18:40
There are probably some that are worth a lot! Perhaps try Ebay?
