Cave Formation

Manitou Springs, CO

As randy young teenagers we guides were quite fascinated with the opportunity to date the cute gals in our tour parties. These young women were called "pies lites" which means perfect cave formation.

The process of target acquisition of a pies lite was simple. The guide would maneuver the group in such a way to get the young lady and her parents in the front of the party. Then we would turn all of our charm on the parents, and really "chat them up."

After we had demonstrated successfully to the parents that we were reliable, trustworthy, funny, and smart; we would then flirt with their daughter the rest of the tour. Then it was a simple matter at the end of the trip to invite the young lady to see some tourist attraction with you that evening.

Ah, those nights of mooning under the stars at the Garden of the Gods with the crickets chirping, the moon glowing, and the night air drifting in the car windows ... what an experience...what memories!!!

Hmmm, I think I meant "make it sound..."

You may it sound like an art form. My guide in Ruby Falls when I was 16 asked me to a hootenanny in the caves that night. It did sound like fun but I didn't go.

You know, I remember visiting the Cave of the Winds in the fifties, I remember this really good-looking guide who engaged my Mom and Dad in conversation....and then.....only kidding, Robin. I so enjoyed your narrative. Sounds like you were good at it!
