After working at the Cave as guide for two years, I was stunned when Ed Campbell (the manager) asked me to become the foreman of the guides the next year. And the following year he invited me to be his assistant manager and to serve as cashier.

At that age I had no concept of self regarding any leadership skills. So when Ed encouraged me and supported me I was quite floored. I never let him down, and his belief in me became a key foundation in my growth as an young adult.
