The Arrangement

Rancho Bernardo, CA

Continuing with the fixed focal length of my Canon EF 50mm 1:1:8 II lens, I responded to a request from Karen Leaf to put some light on my backdrop. Not much if any change from yesterday’s carnation shot.

Today’s flowers are from my yard: Bird of Paradise and Agapanthus. I learned that I had to move back farther than I’d like in order to get it all in with my 50mm lens.

Here is an *** alternate version*** * cropped which would be more like how I would shoot it with a zoom lens.

And if you still have time, I’ve started doing some new abstracts ***with this image.***

Canon EOS 20D ,Canon 50mm f/1.8
1/20s f/11.0 at 50.0mm iso400 full exif

I like the composition on this, the colors are nice, the deep blue vase is the attraction for me.

Well, I'm in awe. This is awesome, Robin. I learn so much from you...thanks for documenting it all.

This is beautiful, Robin... a gorgeous shot actually and I am not sure I mind the base although I do understand what Karen is saying.

Lots more shadow play on the stems, and the vase really stands out. I do like implied depth that the vertical shot shows. Not sure about the stand, wonder how it would look floating? (That's not a request, btw, unless you want to setup again, lol!) Thanks for doing this :)

Very nice Robin. The lighting is great and I prefer your first choice. The whirl-one is fun- keep it up! Quite a garden you have.

Pretty arrangement, from your yard I assume. Funny, I could make the same arrangement out of my front yard!

I prefer this one - the blue vase really works well here.

I wondered how your agapanthus was doing this year. I remember when you planted it last year. It looks as though it did well.
