May 16: Official Announcement

Rancho Bernardo, CA

Dazedgonebye has proposed using one lens employing a fixed focal length for the week. I and a few others are joining him in that effort.

I have chosen to use my Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II lens. It is the only fixed focal length lens I own, however I think it will be a good choice for many reasons.

This is it as it takes its own picture in the moment. To see a fuller, uncropped, version of this image ***click here*** to see how I did it.

Canon EOS 20D ,Canon 50mm f/1.8
1/30s f/4.0 at 50.0mm iso400 full exif

Didn't know this until today (17th) Sounds fun. I only have the 50mm f1.8. :) Yesterday, I added kenko tubes to the 50mm for a macro. So, does that count as a fixed focal length pic? :)

I'm ~~~in~~~~ with the 85 1.8

Fun idea. I just won a 135mm f/2.8 lens on ebay. It's manual focus and compact for traveling. Unfortunately I also bid on a later model and am destined to win that too in a few hours!! Great 2 used lens $80.00 each. I hope they are as described. When I get the first one I'll try to shoot it for a week.

I'm in... starting tomorrow!

@ Gayle and Ken etc... I'd say if you decide on on a fix focal length and stick to it, it more than qualifies!

Can I play along using my 8800 if I just keep the lens at the same focal length?
These prosumer cameras don't have interchangable lenses.

I'm in. Same lens, but no cropping for me. I like this lens shot and also wonder what happened to the word "in." I'm thinking smudge perhaps?

Should be an interesting week!

Best of luck guys!

Well I'm already on my way. Yesterday and today's shots (to be posted) were both with the 50mm 1.8 II, and with my camera's current brain-damaged state, I think I'll be using this lens a lot. So, I'm in.
Good idea for the lens SP. Why is the word "IN" at the bottom blurred? Smudge on the mirror?

Great shot of the lens! Best of luck in your effort!

I am just so jealous that you have at least two to choose from! Looking forward to seeing what you come up with.

Oh no! I'm in a new mystery state and didn't bring a fixed lens with me! I wanna play! I may have to start late.

Great shot of this lens. Sorry, I'm out of the competition unless I shoot 35 mm. film.
Guest 16-May-2005 14:36
that's an idea....maybe I'll try it too....
Guest 16-May-2005 14:35
You know, I'm terrible at product shots and my manual lens galleries do not all have representative images because of that. I'm not sure why this simple idea did not occur to me...
