April 23: Canon Portrait Saturday

Rancho Bernardo, CA

Do you remember film cameras? I barely do. I stored mine away in the fall of 2000 when I bought a FujiFilm 4900 zoom.

***David Mingay *** who loves old cameras challenged me to get my old Canon EOS Elan out of the closet. I’ve loaded it with Tri-X and will grab a few shots for posting later this spring.

Gosh it is quiet, the view screen is bright, and it is light. And I still remember which buttons to push! (Blush)

Here it is in all its glory pointed right at you!

You blue-eyed devil...
I have an old AE-1 and it still works...
But I haven't shot it for years.

Hmmm, now where did I put that, ummmmm, what's it called again ??

wow . .that's a very BLUE eye . . . and an interesting relic . .I refer to the camera . . . I don't think I've ever used a canon. I have a thirty yr old Pentax that I am fond of, only because it is the only manual SLR I have ever owned. I'm no better with it than I am with my digi's. i'll look fwd to seeing what you do. I think I am too lazy to go thru all the steps of shooting devceloping and throwing away the unwanted shots to do what you and DM are doing.

I love shooting black and white film. When I'm working, you can't keep me away from my digitals, but you can't beat working in a darkroom with BW film.

Manic!

I have been following Davids posts too and I'm going to play with some film.
I found a good b&w neg from my Mamiya RB67 of an old barn.
I'm going to scan it and try to post it tomorrow.

Nice blue eyes you have, Robin.

Please ignore my question and try to forget that at times, I'm a complete idiot. Thank you.

Wonderful image and reflection!
Gary Winters23-Apr-2005 22:54
Priceless expression -- but how did you do this????
Guest 23-Apr-2005 21:32
So, this is a picture in picture SP? Did you aply your image at the lens in PS or was the real reflect?
<your expression is priceles!!!

I love the expression on your face. I may have to brush off my old Rebel.
Cliff23-Apr-2005 19:35
Totally delightful! ...being mindful and wary of trick PS manipulation. Isn't that Robert Redford's eye? :)
JeremyGood23-Apr-2005 19:16
Hey, you and Gary have the same eyes.
Guest 23-Apr-2005 19:14
Excellent shot!

The expression on your face is worth a thousand dollars in printing film costs! Shoot away, Robin ~

Digital is at the moment taking over on the consumer market and professional fast shot and reporting market, but, when ever it comes to make a photo of real quality and big size, just any digital will lose the game. It is clear that there is no future for 24x36 sized film, on the other side, medium format like 6x6 and 6x7 will have a long way to go.
Hope you use that one some time, Robin.

My wife was upset with me when I started to use my digital camera at family events because it took me forever to get prints.
So, I got a film Nikon N80 and now she can get the prints in one hour!
I think it’s important to use once in a while the film camera. You have to be more careful with the settings.

Excellent pic! but... I bet your shutter doesn't go click-zzz-click... ;-)
Guest 23-Apr-2005 16:06
And you look so spry behind it, too! Just look at the expression of the master photographer - now he'll have an excuse to buy that $4,000 negative scanner!

What an eye! I have been thinking of getting out my Pentax 1000 again, too and seeing the differences. At least I knew how to use the Pentax.

Nice shot... might have inspired me to grab my old camera (nikon, hmmmmmm there is only one problem... not sure which box it is in.
