March 12: The Great Barrier Reef

The Great Barrier Reef

Think Gray. Think Rain. Think 2 hour boat right in 20 foot choppy seas to get to The Reef. Think snorkeling and swimming at a little Cay with a lagoon.

All this created a wide range of emotions among us. Cleta (above) loved her time in the water. Others didn’t. I chose to ride in a semi-submersible to get some coral shots. Sample posted in my *** Australian gallery***
.

Bev had the underwater camera for her snorkeling. After we return perhaps there will be some good film from that.

I enjoyed the day albeit it was so long. When it came my time to snorkel it was raining quite hard and the seas were not very clear. I skipped the snorkel bit. However, the 2 hour ride back home with following seas and a slightly clearing sky made for great boating with the wind and salt spray basting my face as I stood on the bow.

You went out to the reef on the wettest day on record for Cairns...my thoughts were on you the moment I heard about the 287mm ( 11 inches ) of rain in one day...My God, what's with these tour guide people...!! What a darn shame Robin that one of the Seven Wonders of the World just happened to be inundated with cyclone leftovers....mind you, Darwin faces it again right now. That city was completely wiped out in 1974 & this one bearing down on them is as strong.

A day out on the water, and a long drive back, with the sea behind you. Robin. You are in paradise. I looked at those tanks and wanted to be there very badly.
Great happy shot.

She's the one in the group who's always got a positive attitude, right? The cheerful one? Well, if so, then good for her! Great candid portrait!

Great adventure and good to know you didn't get seasick.

Sounds like fun, no matter what the conditions. We're all jealous, of course. Nice candid shot.

It sounds like you hit marginal weather at a nice spot.I hope by the time I get to the Reef things have improved.
