March 6: New Hat!

Alice Springs, Australia

My feelings are a bit hurt. Several people (including an ex-girlfriend of mine!) thought yesterday’s slathering sunscreen shot was a picture of me! No, this is me above taken by Ted who is man in yesterday’s picture.

We flew 3 hours northwest from Sydney to “The Alice” today to see the center of this continent. Alice Springs a town of 27,000 hardy souls is quite arid (less than 10 inches a year) and gets quite hot. Originally built as a telegraph relay station in 1871-72 the town has prospered and is now the biggest settlement in the Northwest Territories outside of Darwin. But believe me, it is out in the middle of nowhere!

There was not much to photograph today, but I did get a couple of airport shots and one taken at the Royal Doctor Flying Service exhibit (they fly all over the Australia bringing medical support to the remote regions.

Oh yes, we went to Carmen at the Sydney Opera house. It was fun to go, I like the music, and now I can check off that I've seen my one opera before I die! LOL

I’m also posting a few more shots in the *** Australian gallery***

Trust you, Robin. Anyone else would have given us a shot of Mount Uluru...

I thought it was an SP too! Like the hat!

Very nice hat. You look quite relaxed. It sounds as though Alice Springs was not your cup of tea.
Gary Winters06-Mar-2005 16:03
Nice hat... I guess your self imposed SP ban is over, right?

Like your hat. Glad you got to see an opera and glad it was "Carmen" and not "Othello" which is much heavier. Enjoy!

So wait, we're come all the way to California, but you're in OZ???? And we were heading down your way today! LOL!
Herb 06-Mar-2005 15:30
Cool hat, are you going to be a nurse with the flying doctor service?..LOL
Kenneth Zimmerman06-Mar-2005 14:34
Guilty, mee too! Sorry.
A hat like that will help with protection from the sun.
I have several like that to use WHEN we have sun in Michigan!

I hope you are enjoying your trip.
Keep posting!

Wooops - I'm guilty. Sorry about that. With all the sunscreen, and going too fast through PaD commenting, I messed up. Will it make you feel better if I say something like: "Hey, I didn't realize you were this good looking!" ????

Or, "nice hat!" ??

phew, lucky i didn't comment about yesterday's picture.... :)

as laine mentioned...should try to make it to the red rock (ayers rock) which is supposely beautiful in the evening light.

Supporting the RFDS is a wonderful thing. Wearing a hat at all times a very wise thing. Your no doubt going to be rising to see sunrise on the rock & again the sunset( Ayres ) now known as Ularu. Robin you are going to want to set that camera up as if you see either the rise or the set your going to feel like your in heaven.
Get some sleep, you look tired.
