February 21: The Skytower

Auckland, NZ

We spent part of the day sightseeing in downtown Auckland, beginning with an overview of the City atop the 328 meter high Skytower. We followed this with an in-depth look at the maritime history of these Islands at a museum that covered the entire period from the first Polynesian peoples arriving in their amazing “canoes” to present day sea commerce.

Oh my goodness, I just saw my 2005 comment and now I can say not only have I seen the Skytower, but had our opening dinner there and stayed in the hotel. I can't wait to tell you all about it!

I didn't drink all the scotch. Just enough to know I drank some on Saturday morning when I woke up. Now I gotta go check out all your NZ pix.

Just to add, since you are in Auckland, try to go out to Waiheke Island, there are amazing wines made there and look at Great Barrier Island, an occasion to have a relax in the hot springs. The Islands of the Gulf are a real paradise on earth.

I like this shot, Robin. The repartition between lighted and shade zones is just amazing and well balanced.

while Auckland is quite nice, it is the worst of NZ cities - go South young man!
