December 13: Rah, Rah, for RAW - PaD Addendum

La Jolla Shores

So many people commented on yesterday’s surfer shot, I thought I’d post here the original image (reduced in size and dpi but not cropped or adjusted.

Look at yesterday’s **CLOSEUP** of the same image.

The original size of the file (8.3 mega pixels) along with the power of RAW to balance color and contrast etc. (before the image loads into Photoshop!!) really makes it possible to take an average photo and give it a great deal of punch.

other sizes: small medium large original auto

Pacific Ocean? Pah... we've been getting better surf than this in Cornwall...! ;-)

If you go into the sea off Dundee just now, I think you have 10 minutes to live!

Robin, I always suspected you leaned about four degrees to the left, and now you've confirmed it. That aside, good idea to post this.

No way! That was a CROP I saw yesterday? I'm amazed!

Thanks for showing the "before" as well as the "after" versions.

I like seeing the "before" still a wonderful picture, your crop made it spectacular!

A totally different picture than yesterday. Much more action yesterday.

Wow, Robin. You did the perfect crop yesterday! This picture is good, but the way you cropped it made it totally excellent and exciting.

You're right. I just wanted to ride it in myself. Can feel the pull on my toes :) That curl is great!
Robin Reid14-Dec-2004 02:51
Karen I wanted to keep the feeling of being right in the water with him, and to pull back to include the curl would have displayed more of the shallow water and reduced the drama.

Really glad you posted this, Robin. It's amazing the image you were able to pull out of this shot. The camera, lens, and operator are a winning combination. Kudos. Almost wish I could've seen the curl on the right in the yesterday's tho, but it prob wouldn't have been as balanced?

Especially if the water is running out to the left.LOL
What would digital photography be without the ease of cropping.
