August 21: San Diego’s Finest

Rancho Bernardo, CA

Rancho Bernardo is not exactly a hot bed of crime (in fact it has the lowest crime rate in the city), however my eyebrow and camera got raised when I noticed that these 3 squad cars and their officers had been sitting in the lot and chatting for at least thirty minutes.

Eating doughnuts and drinking coffee no doubt, LOL.
Stu23-Aug-2004 22:23
They look just like the ones you see in the films ;-)

Do you get a "Get out of jail free card" for posing this shot? :o)

Good shot, Robin! (Not much to add to the great humor and good suggestions below.)

Darn... I am always too late to the party... I want to see the fake blurred background. As for what these cops are doing? I'm betting they are just taking advantage of the fact that they work a low crime area. Nice shot Robin.

Robin, the first thing I thought of when I saw this was the theme song for "Car 54 where are you?" - rememebr that cop comedy from the ... ummm ... early sixties. (Gawd!, I feel old all of a sudden!) I betcha these guys were sharing donut recipes and baseball scores! Great catch!

My neighborhood is so boring, I see cops doing this all the time!

I was a tad nervous. NOte the cop on the left looking at me. I grabbed the shot and left with one eye on my rear view mirror ;-).

I would drive very slowly for the next year or so!

Terrific! I bet you could sell this photo as a promo to Dunkin' Donuts! Btw - were you nervous about taking this pic? I would have been so self conscious. I notice you didn't even use your big bertha to give you some cover.

Robin, I think this is a fun composition, and provides lots of opportunity for funny captions, but I think you need to revisit your post processing on this one. The blurred b/g ground doesn't work for me. For example, the cop cars aren't cleanly slected from the b/g - look at the sirens of the third car on the right. They're completely obliterated. And in some cases there is a distinct edge between the vlur and the non-blur. Don't mean to be harsh, but I think you should reconsider.

You da' man, Robin!

they could be discussing a case . . . .of doughnuts . . . .
Guest 21-Aug-2004 22:48
Interesting photo but I wouldn't have blurred the background in post processing -- looks fake.

Cool shot!! The shallow depth of field looks fabulous. Neato!

Very journalistic photo Robin.

Herb beat me to it... Was looking for the Dunkin Donuts.
Nice blurry b/g.
Did you find out what they were there for?
Zak21-Aug-2004 20:53
just like our police then, If you were planning a robbery on Bute, the best time to do it is 9am, all the police officers are in the que at the bakery lol
Herb 21-Aug-2004 20:20
So where was the dough nut place?
