looking at New Jersey from the Pennsylvania side
Approximately 180 degree panorama, both "sides" of riverbank in view.
The river runs straight as an arrow at this stretch, and the echo from waterfowl calls
(especially geese) is incredible. If you watch them fly down the river (while calling),
sometimes you wonder if they are just chasing their own echo!
River running low, despite near - record floods of previous month
(top of my head here would have been under about 16 feet / 5 meters of water)
this beautiful pristine wilderness area was almost submerged by the controversial Tocks Island Dam, which was
deauthorized in 1992. A lot of properties were condemned / demolished in preparation - unnecessarily.

one at amazon: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0271004819/103-8393488-2989406?v=glance
Reading the reviews of the book is enough to get a good feeling for what almost happened here.
