ramamohan, many thanks for the info, and the comments about the bricks. Just looked that way to me. these are reminiscent of "funnel cakes" found at many stateside fairs. But the Indian version, from your description, could be more interesting. I am sorry that I didn't have a chance to try it on this occasion.

This is a sweet dish known in India as "Jalebi". Once it is fried into this circular form, it is dipped into a sugar syrup before being eaten. Really yummy..(as long as you dont bother about calories)
Dont worry, he does not have bricks in his dress and not many have fallen into that hot oil. Jalebis have been made for centuries in India and will continue to be made :-)
