Olivewing - top

Very poor foto but a portion of this males hind wing, with the redish top edge, is visible.

[family] Nymphalidae, . . . . . . . { [subfamily] Eurytelinae, [genus] Nessaea, [species] aglaura. }

NOTE: some sources have this classified in the [subfamily] Limenitidinae.

Common Name: Olivewing and Blue-Banded Shoemaker . . Scientific Name: Nessaea aglaura

-—› The basic colors and patterns between the male and female are similar except for the hind wings. The females have a brownish hue
but those of the male are black like the forewings and also have a large vibrant brush of red-orange on the inner top edge of the
hind wings, that is usually only visible during flight. Females also have a has a small red spot on the forewing sholder.

-—› This species is from the regions of S. Mexico, Colombia, and Ecuador.
