I am facinated by the "Built Environment" and the visual landscapes it creates, rather than by the architecture itself. The clear air and bright sunshine in Brisbane gives a stark reality to the buildings. Although the buildings may be of monumental proportions, because of their contrast with the environment their greatness is somehow diminished. They are, however, icons of our civilization. The Gold Coast highrise is a great example. Huge buildings perched on the edge of the Continent,at the mercy of any slight variation in the normal pattern of climate, weather or geological change in the environment. This is of course utter folly and regulations would prohibit such building today (hopefully). . . .
