This is a statue of Fridtjof the brave,a hero from the
viking sagas of Norway. The statue was given to the people
of Vik in Sogn as a present from Emperor Wilhelm III of Germany
and was unveiled in 1913. Kaizer Vilhelm was a great admirer
of the viking-sagas and of Norway and the norwegian people.
He had his summer vacations here in Vik from the beginning of
the 1890`s until the beginning of WW1.
A very impressive statue in a very impressive location..... :-)
