Sound Barrier

Last year we felt that too much engine noise was coming
through the engine room hatches (doors) that are on Shibumi's cockpit floor.
The hatches are thick fiber glass but they still radiated considerable diesel engine noise.
I used some plastic sheeting to create a rough template.
Then, I used the template to cut out the marine
sound-proofing barrier supplied by American Micro Industries of Chambersburg, PA.
I initially placed the template on the wrong side of the barrier.
Luckily I caught it before I cut, or the piece would have been reversed, mirror-image sytle.
My cutting is not that artistic, but the barrier will only be seen when the engine compartment is open.
When I finished, the water in the canal was too low to start the engine to hear the difference.
I will have to wait about three or four hours before the water rises enough to keep mud out of my cooling intake.
