| As we motored in Mosquito Lagoon and then the Indian River on this journey's second day, I noticed that Shibumi's performance was considerably reduced. I checked the engine and the drive-train. Everything seemed normal. I suspected that we had tangled something around the propeller. Some of you may remember last year when Jill went beneath the boat to cut a line and stabbed her own hand. If you didn't hear about that Click Here. This time we decided to use a professional diver. We were anchored of the coast of Titusville, FL in sight of the Kennedy Space Center. I made a few radio calls and got the phone number of a dive service in the area. I had to take the dinghy ashore to pick up Donny Brown at nine o'clock on the morning of day three. Donny worked from our dinghy and went under Shibumi. He found a build-up of barnacles on the prop, the rudder, and beneath the keel. I was very surprised. I had hired a diver just one week before we left home to clean below the water-line. Apparently, last week's diver didn't do what he was hired to do. Donny got us cleaned up and we were back on the Indian River by 10:30 in the morning of day three. Shibumi performed like she normally did. We trekked five hours south and found a quite place to anchor off of the coast of Merritt Island. After a light dinner onboard we were treated to a wonderful sunset. Not long after dark we went to bed to rest up for day four. |
