If the aircraft would have come off of the runway, I would have had to run to my left and slightly toward the aircraft to avoid being hit. That is counter intuitive to what most people would do.
After seeing countless landings like this, and having to make one once myself, I felt 90% sure I was standing in the right place. But that 10% factor could have hurt... A LOT.
