June 27, 2006

Shibumi's launch is scrubbed.
We had planned to leave tomorrow for the Kennedy Space Center
to watch the launch of the Space Shuttle Discovery.
After going through routine mechanical checks, we decided not to go.
I spent all of yesterday, and most of this morning, working on Shibumi's normally reliable Perkins Diesel.
I just don't have the tools or the talent to get it to perform up to standards.
My regular diesel technician, Jamie, will not be available until next week.
It is only a minor problem now, so I could operate the engine and have Jamie look at it when we return.
But I don't want to foolishly make a minor problem, major.
So, I am sad to say, the trip to watch the shuttle launch is canceled.

Nice shot. Sorry to hear your trip to the launch is scrubbed, but always better safe than sorry. As I understand it the shuttle is on schedule, but weather threatens... Perhaps it's just as well...

Sorry to hear about that. I was looking forward to some crusing photos and pics of the launch. But there will be other trips. That engine sure looks clean. :)
