Yesterday's PaD

Why do we set sail?
There are as many reasons to sail as there are people who do.

Thousands of people set sail simply to travel.
Like Tim Cambell said yesterday we have the, "Freedom to harness the power of the wind",
and go where the wind takes us.
We visit unplanned destinations and see sights that would have gone unnoticed by any other means of travel.

And there are many other reasons to set sail.

Jill and I meet many people who live-aboard sailboats full-time.
Most are retired or have professions that can move from place to place.
So when the weather or local conditions no longer suit them, they set sail for more favorable environs.

Lynn and Lynnette, seen here with Jill, live aboard the sailing vessel Caribbean Call, fulltime.

There are those who want to learn new skills.
Handling and maintaining a sailing vessel requires a bunch of skillsets not often used on land.

Of course, there are hundreds of other reasons to untie the docklines.
If given the opportunity would you?
Why?
Why not?

Nice shot--terrific framing. (I would if I could...)

Nice shot over the bow. Hope you've got some wind or those power boat wakes will be a royal PITB. We used to call them stink boats. :)

I think i'd do it too. In my middle fifties, I'm becoming aware that I may not live forever. And there's a lot of world I'd like to see!

In a nanosecond. Nothing can compare to the wind at your back, the sun on your face and the spray of the sea. (With a stick and some line to catch dinner.)

Reminds me of my recently retired co-worker who moved to the Tampa Bay area.
He was talking about getting a boat.
Nice shot.

It would be nice to live on a boat.

Excellent shot, David
Tack sharp
Love to look at boats under way. Never had the desire to own one.
I tend to sink rather than float! (fear of the water)

Why? I get high off just walking on the beach. After 800 scuba dives I still love being awed by unknown wonders.
I have 1 friend who sails to meet old friends and for him it is very social reasons. Yet another sails because it allows him to get away from crowded hectic life..

Why not? Money and time. I bought a lotto ticket today and your to blame. Gotta go my mutual funds.
