Peck Lake, Jupiter Island, FL. Today started with heavy rain, which we welcomed because it gave Shibumi's deck a good wash down. I took a peek at the weather radar on my cell phone as Jill watched the rain from the cockpit.
We got underway a little before ten o'clock and made a short two hour trip from Jensen Beach to Peck Lake. The weather was very windy and cloudy throughout the day.
Our speedlog was reading all zeros during this morning's trip. That is normally a sigh that some form of growth is clogging the instrument's paddle wheel sensor.
So when we reached Peck Lake I went into the bilge and took the sensor through the hull. That is something I would NOT have done when I first bought Shibumi. It can be unsettling to watch sea water enter your boat... Now-a-days, I am a little more comfortable about it.
Anyway, I was able to clean the paddle wheel on the speedlog and reattach it to plug the onrush of sea water. (Bilge pumps dispatched the water back to the sea.)
Hopefully the speedlog will give us a good reading and not show all zeros when we leave tomorrow for West Palm Beach.
That would have me freaked out to see sea water coming into the boat....glad you know what you are doing! Stay dry!!! And, say hello to West Palm Beach....I was there almost a year ago...last April....we had dinner together. Dang, wish I could meet up with you guys again this year, but alas, no.
