I think the more interesting question isn't what the artist's intent was, but why the cathedral chose to hang it on their wall. Clergy usually having some familiarity with the story of Christ. But maybe that's just me.
Well I read up on this work:
http://www.nakedchrist.co.uk/ Still do not agree with the depiction of Christ's body decaying to show his suffering because the Bible reveals Him as a risen Savior. His suffering would not include decay. Taking on the sins of the world is too painful for us to comprehend. Maybe this is her way of trying to portray the magnitude of what Christ did on the cross when he paid for our sins. Interesting work. Definitely gets people to react but my Savior is ALIVE!!!!! I have to wonder if she trusts Christ to be her savior. I am curious about her personal beliefs concerning Christ.
Hmmm, the sculpture is disturbing because Jesus rose from the dead on the third day and He is alive indeed! I will have to research the artist to read up on this piece.

Have to agree with Tamara - This is one of the warmest and most tranquil of cathedral sites in Britain. I just do not understand what message Michele Coxon is trying to deliver here. Nice capture though!!
