The Largest Ship on the River Mersey, Ever.

No, not the Ark Royal but that oil tanker over there.
The 158,569 gross tonnes BW Bauhinia, which had 82,000 tonnes of oil on board - the first cargo of Girassol Crude from Angola to be offloaded at Shell's Tranmere Oil Terminal and piped overland to the Stanlow Refinery.
The BW Bauhinia is a double hulled ULCC (Ultra Large Crude Carrier) and is 332 metres long with a beam of 58 metres.

other sizes: small medium original auto

I have taken a 13 foot boat alongside some supertankers in the Solent.
They dont seem so big, partly because they move so slow. Liners give the impression of hugeness because they have so much bulk reaching for the sky.
And when they throttle up, leaving an unbelievable wash.
There are no words to describe it, you have to be there.

That tanker is over 3 football fields in length! Impressive!

Fantastic how you've caught everybody shifting their attention from the Ark to the tanker!
