Most of the big Mara River crossings happened a couple of weeks before we arrived. We found mostly scavengers feeding on bloated carcasses. The crocs were too stuffed to move. The smell was awful. We did see a small group of wildebeest cross and we saw a very large group contemplate crossing for several hours. They finally turned around and headed back to the plains. Maybe the sight of hundreds of their dead relatives put them off.
