Virginia Safari Park Sept. 2023

On September 8, I arrived around 10 after taking Howard to Ingleside and driving from Staunton to Natural Bridge. This was my first visit to the park in September. You cannot get out of the car. You can buy food to feed the residents, but I never do. They still come to the car, and of course they're still fed by staff. I saw some animal species quite a bit more than I had four years ago (e.g., zebras) and missed others completely. The missed ones were probably way up on a hill, in shelters, or under large trees, avoiding the hot and dry conditions near the road. (It was hotter than usual that day.) There also weren't many young animals, I suppose due to the month I visited. But my favorites, the llamas, were there. I met one I named "Toofus" and decided that not all llamas are beautiful. During my second spin around the huge park, I had to pass on the left to avoid a young zebra lying very still on the road ahead of me. I was afraid it was dead, but I think it was just sleeping. There was an adult standing near by that didn't budge when I carefully moved the car over and inched my way past them.

But some guys are too little! At least this little deer tried his best.

Blackbucks. I'm told usually the darkest ones are most dominant.
