A day in beautiful Sitka & a day going to/from and viewing/listening to the mighty Hubbard Glacier.

Arrived at face of Hubbard around noon. Were 3/4ths mile away. It was foggy with rain and hard to see the glacier. Sigh.
Crew members came out on the crew deck to see 13 mile long Hubbard
Ship turned slowly so everyone inside/out could see/photograph the glacier. An hour later visibility improved - yay!
It was very quiet, but sometimes you'd hear a boom, and then a splash - calving was taking place!
Lots of blue stuff in the water
An occasional patch of sun yielded a few pretty "bergy" pictures
For short while rain stopped & sun came out.
Howard's picture of Hubbard - his camera adds more color, but my color is more accurate.
Closeup by Howard
My point and shoot didn't handle this shot well, but I still love my licorice popsicle shot!
Got better pictures in 2007, but not THIS picture as we departed. Love it.
Getting farther away - not many bergy bits! (Go to last page.)
