I enjoyed the short, pretty train ride from Vilagarcia to Santiago |
Even in the light rain, taken from a bus window, the Galician countryside is enchanting |
Another couple from my ship & I found a cab to the Santiago Cathedral area. Backpackers, tourists, pilgrims were there. |
Cathedral de Santiago de Compostela. It started as a chapel & was enhanced over 200 year period. |
Hotel on one side of the square. They'll call cab for you. |
Typical street in Santiago near cathedral |
Unsurprisingly, religious buildings & statues are everywhere. The city has 40 churches! |
Quite a few backpackers were there, finishing their walk |
Details everywhere |
Inside the University Repository |
Seashell is symbol for El Camino |
Several Spanish euro cent coins feature the Cathedral |
Building in complex & gardens; cabs were down there too |
Statue & fountain |
Elegant buildings everywhere I looked |
Cathedral from side |
In Vilagarcia, I found faded glory. Spain & Portugal don't tear down too many buildings |
Mussel beds as our ship departed Vilagarcia. This went on for almost an hour. |
Isla da Rua lighthouse was decrepit but intriguing. |
Side of Isla Rua side as ship passed |
Isla Salvora lighthouse about an hour & a half after departing Vilagarcia |
With shores like this, I can see why lighthouses were built around here. |
