Took Amtrak 3 hours to Moynihan Train Hall; checked into Pod Hotel Times Square |
The stay was quite adequate except for the false fire alarm at 4 AM. |
Took the MTA to Little Island. The "tulips" intriqued me and the views were nice too. |
Also viewed Little Island from nearby Pier 57. |
I noticed Adirondeck chairs below the tulips. |
Piles are still in the water around the island |
I walked around on the street below and saw what I call the "H building." (I guess it's really a U.) |
Pilings are everywhere in the waters around the west side of lower Manhattanthe Hudson. |
I loved the modern buildings along the Hudson River Park area |
 Another modern building. |
I saw City Winery at Pier 57, site of many musical shows. |
I went to find one entrance to the High Line (hard to find) in nearby Chelsea. |
A woman photographing something from the High Line was making a fashion statement. |
I went up a long flight of steps to see the Old Tree. Later on it will be replaced by a huge "pigeon." |
Around 15th street is a decorative Skybridge |
I continued to walk the High Line a bit but was stopped by a barricade. |
I had to photograph the musical fishes ""What if they Bark?" from the barricade. |
"Old Tree" from a nearby street |
Late afternoon I took the C train to Brooklyn. It was a little hard to find the steps up to the walking lane across the Bridge. |
The weather was dreary as I began my walk. |
From some distance, I was able to pick out the Statue of Liberty |
I photographed the Manhattan Bridge with Manhattan behind it. |
Manhattan Bridge can be walked too. But I passed. |
Colored lights helped me pick out the Empire State and other buildings to my right |
Lights started coming on as I got closer to Manhattan. |
 Beautiful! |
Expressions of love on the bridge |
The "blue hour" made everything better |
I got a few pictures as I passed the final pylon of the bridge |
 Bright lights, big city |
Someone offered to take my picture on the bridge. |
 It's quite dark now. |
The pylon closest to Manhattan |
 The old Radiator Building |
The bridge walk ended near City Hall. The A train takes you home. |
This man was selling sodas on one of the trains. He came prepared with quite a selection. |
In one of the subway tunnels I stopped to admire some art. |
Went to Grand Central Terminal to catch a Metro North train to Tarrytown. |
Like a song by Mary Chapin Carpenter, I waited on the platform for the Hudson Line. |
I rented a car & drove to the Tarrytown (Sleepy Hollow) Lighthouse. What a beauty. |
Lighthouse with Tappan Zee (Cuomo) Bridge |
 Outside the dog park |
Sleepy Hollow artists painted a mural along the riverwalk |
Behind the lighthouse. Too bad the little walkway was off limits. |
That evening I went to celebrate Cathy's birthday at Daryl's House, Pawling. James Maddock full band was incredible. |
 Andrew Carillo |
 Ben Stivers |
Aaron Comess & Drew Mortali |
Set list (no Breezy, but my favorite Never Ending) |
As is customary, James came out afterwards to talk to his fans. (Mary Beth, Gail, Cathy) |
Cathy's husband took a picture of my new friends. |
 I said hello. |
I spent the night in serene Heidi's Inn in Pawling. Love this area of NY. |
The next morning I got up early, went back to NYC (MTA station on East Side) |
Dad and daughter off to school, daycare, whatever |
Stored my bag in a Bounce place; pizza man assured me he'd keep it safe behind the pizza counter. I headed to Roosevelt Island. |
Took a 4 minute tram ride from around E 59th St. to Roosevelt Island in the middle of the Hudson. |
The views were pretty interesting. |
On the island I took a small bus to where I could walk down to the Blackwell Lighthouse. |
The stonework at the door was quite nice. |
In front of the lighthouse was an art installation called "The Girl Puzzle - Nellie Bly" |
This was a fabulous creation about a fabulous investigative reporter from the past. |
The back of each face was completely different from the front. |
Face of an old lady |
I didn't like the huge mirrored balls much, but I took a self-portrait anyway. |
Went back to the tram; found the RI sign very popular. |
As the tram lifted, we waved to the school children below. |
Fire escapes on an NYC building on the east side |
Queensboro Bridge from the tram |
Back in Manhattan, I went to the National Memorial for 9/11, then to the Oculus, designed by Santiago Calatrava. |
People were everywhere, going to the PATH & MTA subway trains, and maybe the stores/eateries. |
Outside the Oculus the animals were having a party. |
 More party animals |
I failed to get a picture bird-like Oculus outside. But at least I admired/photographed things outside. |
Then I checked out the Vessel in Hudson Yards. |
Metal nets are being installed for safety. |
It's expected to re-open for visits later this year. |
Sadly, I had to say goodbye to NY. I'll miss it. |
