April 25 was an important holiday (Freedom Day/Carnation Revolution/start of democracy), so I wasn't sure what to expect in Porto on our stop there. Would things be closed? But it was fine. And it surprised me that it was only 1974 that Portugal became a democracy after its bloodless coup.
Cruise ships dock in Leixoes, a 20-30 minute ride to center city. We took the offered shuttle, which dropped us off at the Alfandega waterfront location in Porto. Porto was absolutely amazing. I didn't get to see everything I wanted to see, but it's OK. I'd love to go back.
