In the Beautiful Philippines - Puerto Princesa, Palawan

We had 3 days in the Philippines - one each in Puerto Princesa and Coron in the Palawan, and 1 in Manila. As we approached Puerto Princesa, I was amazed by the beauty of this country. There were soaring cliffs covered with palm trees, somewhat hidden coves opening up as we cruised, and colorful and graceful spidery "bangkas" skimming the blue water. In the port, there were friendly Filipino greeters in traditional dress. When we left the ship, we each received a straw hat. Our sightseeing for the day consisted of a long van ride and 2 boat rides to and through the Puerto Princesa Subterranean River National Park. The park is a UNESCO site in the St. Paul Mountain Range 80 kilometers from Puerto Princesa. There was a lot of waiting involved, but it was a very fun experience overall.

After a long drive we reached the area of the Underground River. First we had to take a bangka to the staging area and wharf.
