Our last port for touring was Heimaey in the Westman Islands. We approached the island earlier than scheduled, anchored and were tendered into the harbor facing the huge mountain. Howard saw a few people climbing the mountain; apparently there are steps and paths around the back. In 1973 a volcano erupted & 400 houses were buried here. The vast majority of islanders were able to get to the pier & take fishing/other boats to safety on the mainland. The Eldfell Mountain (lava) remains as a reminder. Howard met me on the pier later for a boat tour around the island. Then we sailed away at 6, had one last dinner on board (World Cafe), and packed and put out our luggage out for Isa and Cyril to take away. Tomorrow would be a very early/long day. Travel in August 2021 was fraught with challenges, and our trip back on Delta was no exception.
