From nearby Colton's Point I took the water taxi to St. Clement's Island. This is the new replica of Blackistone Lighthouse
The cross was built in 1934 to honor the religious freedom settlers enjoyed in Maryland.

I volunteered at the 2009 Maryland Lighthouse Challenge, working at Piney Point in St. Mary's County.
The annual Maryland Lighthouse Challenge allows participants to visit and (usually) enter all 10 land-based lighthouses/lightships in Maryland over the course of two days and one evening. It's called a challenge because it takes a lot of driving to get down small peninsulas, navigate Baltimore, and do other things to visit all locations! I have never done the challenge, although I HAVE seen all of Maryland's lighthouses, including the ones out in the Chesapeake Bay and Potomac River.

drove down to Point Lookout at the end of the peninsula to see the lighthouse before it closed for the day.
