Anhinga Trail, Feb. 26, 2012 & Dinner w Jorge & Kiki Feb. 25
Flew to Miami. Friends Jorge and Kiki took us to a wonderful dinner bayside. The churrascaria (sp?) steak was incredible. |
The next AM I drove to the Everglades. The vultures have gotten so bad that the Park Svc now gives you a tarp for your car! |
The sign is no joke! I didn't use a tarp and returned to find my rental car (not one of these) covered with bird splat! |
I got on the Trail abt 7AM, too late for sunrise, but at least there were tons of birds there like this little blue heron. |
I once drove to Anhinga to find NO birds, just alligators. This time was different (anhinga on Anhinga Trail, Everglades). |
I never tire of photographing the majestic great blue herons. |
This beauty is a purple gallinule. I saw one later in Belize, where they are called the "Jesus Christ Bird." They're very shy. |
Female anhinga |
This bird is also very shy, and not seen that often (moorhen). |
After a while, the sun started bathing the birds in a warm glow. (Tricolored heron). |
And then I saw a wood stork, one of my favorite Florida birds. |
Detail of the wood stork's ugly head and neck. They move their heads back & forth in the water when they're foraging. |
