Took an optional excursion to the colonial town of Trinidad. Here's (probably) a coach driver with a resident |
Trinidad was very colorful. Here's a typical lane. |
Classic American car and colorful buildings were everywhere |
A typical shop in the oldest part of town |
 Typical scene |
 Taxi closeup |
Another blue car. Many were taxis. |
 Cars & buildings |
 Another shot |
 Typical street |
Street dogs were fairly common |
Buildings were in various states of decay |
Green car coming down the sreet |
On a side street I found this bar. Who doesn't love the Beatles? |
 Red Chevy |
I wished I had time to go up top at Palacio Cantero (19th C) |
Convento & eglesia de San Francisco can be seen for blocks around |
Better view of the church of San Francisco |
Another church, Sanatisima, with neo classical architecture |
Our tour took us by bus to ruins of a family's sugar mill. Here's the nearby Izgnaga Estate tower. |
Collectivo transport is still used in the countryside - jump on if there's room. |
And here's a very old reticulated bus, nicknamed a "camel" by Cubans - still in use. |
Our tour took us to a pottery factory. Pottery was OK, but what I loved most was the husky on the bench. |
A pottery factory employee demonstrated his trade. |
Back in center city, we walked by a school. cat pd by govt.jpg |
Some of the school children looked at us and smiled. |
Went to this restaurant for lunch. Sat down at a table with 2 cruisers from Rockville - surprise! |
As lunch wrapped up, I went outside to photograph the street. |
We visited a well known woodcarver in his studio. |
And passed more American cars. |
The beautiful Eglesia de San Francisco was our meeting point after a small amount of free time. |
A local student was doing what students around the world do - if your family has enough money for a device! |
Nice hotel & restaruant near the church. |
Palacio Brunet & Palacio Cantero |
A stray dog was finding his lunch in the trash left in the street. |
 Blue buildings and church/convent |
Church and buildings on other side - lots of wood trimming |
 Palacio Brunet |
Horse carts were available for transport |
Blue car in front of blue building |
 Back of Eglisia |
The blue wood turned decorations are called barrotes - 18th century |
Toured Temple of Yemaya. Santeria religion arose from blending Spanish Catholic conqueror & African slave religions. |
Passed a school. Guide said it would be OK to take a picture through the bars on the open building. |
On the way to Trinidad, from bus I photographed Lighthouse #501 (Jaguanabo or Yaguanabo) |
Unidentified church on way to Trinidad |
So so many iron grilles in Cuba (19thC neo-classical style) |
While I went to Trinidad, Howard went to the Bay of Pigs Museum (at Playa Giron) away & ate a wonderful lunch in Cienfuegos |
Bay of Pigs Museum inside was small but interesting. I got to see it on the way back from Havana. |
Cuban plane at Bay of Pigs Museum |
On the way back, Howard saw unhulled rice being dried on the side of the road. Cars just go over it; it's swept up later. |
