Woke up at 7, went out of our inside cabin to the top deck, and WOW - there it was! (Roches Point lighthouse, 1st view) |
Beautiful, and great sunrise (for once) too! |
Coming into Cork Harbor, around 7AM |
The captain of the Orla Bird was checking us out on this fine morning. |
A little later, trolling for food on the Terrace, I noticed the most amazing scenery right off the side of the ship - Cobh! |
My omelet got cold as I stared in amazement. Good thing I had my camera with me! |
 Loved this colorful sight! |
Cobh (pronounced "Cove") was the last stop for the Titanic, and is a pretty city with colorful houses tumbling down the hillside |
Took Oceania's "on your own" transfer to Cork City, which turned out to be more than just a ride to/from Cork. |
Cork has a ton of canals, bridges, hills & churches. |
The guide pointed out highlights from the bus & then we were deposited near St. Patrick's Bridge in Cork for a few hours. |
At St. Anne's Church, you can pay to ring the Bells of Shandon. Sounded like a kid was playing - 1 note every 2 or 3 seconds! |
Shandon Flags Project was responsible for all the flags around the neighborhood |
There seems to be a lot of color in the Republic of Ireland! |
Dublin had its Leprechaun Museum; Cork has a Butter Museum! |
Like other Irish cities, Cork has a distillery. It makes its own whiskey plus Heineken |
Bridges & canals are everywhere |
Sign in Shandon window reads, "Celtic kid with attitude." |
 Bridge near the University |
At Bishop Lucey Park you can see parts of the original city walls. |
The mock "clootie rags" in the park caught my eye. (Rags used to be tied to trees to bring good health.) |
This statue caught my eye & I stopped in to St. Mary's Church. Churches in Europe are a dime a dozen, but this one was gorgeous. |
Beautiful church - and while I was there, used by several people. |
I love color, so I loved the beautiful, modern organ. |
Picked up church literature & realized it was the Feast of St. Dominic & this was a Dominican Catholic church. |
In a separate little room was this prayer niche and statue |
I don't know when this church was restored, but it looked gorgeous. |
St. FinBarres Cathedral, where it absolutely poured, is an immense thing at one end of the city. |
Gargoyle. My point and shoot camera sure got a work out on this cruise! |
 Near the doors |
 Gold trumpeter |
At sailaway, I got another chance to see Cobh. |
Even though I didn't get to visit it due to time constraints (and being docked in Ringaskiddy - ick!) I feel like I visited it! |
Howard knows where to find me at sailaway. |
I think I spent too much time on the top deck - I made this self portrait using one of Marina's decorative mirrors. |
Then it was time for dinner at Red Ginger. Mya, thanks for taking the picture! |
Surprisingly, Howard ordered lamb at this Asian establishment! |
Tonight was "crew salute" night. We love this night, so we went to see the show. |
The executive chef & one of Howard's favorite chefs (from previous cruises) |
Practically every crew member comes on stage for the salute. These guys work SO hard and this is SUCH fun for us. |
Howard stood outside & took pictures of people he liked. |
When guests walk out, the crew members lining the walls cheer them. |
Excellent cabin steward Robert spotted me taking his picture post-show. This guy was excellent. We hope to see him again. |
