Away we go - nonstop Baltimore to CHS on Southwest - quick flight! |
Rented a car and drove south, encountering heavy rush hour traffic and this monster on the side of the highway |
Checked into Kasim's wonderful Airbnb place in John's Island |
Next day, tropical storm Hermine threatened to wreak havoc. We saw news folks in nearby Folly Beach. |
Sand bags at the Sno Bar in Folly Beach |
A shark watches over City Hall |
Folly Beach pier with angry Atlantic |
The palm fronds were actually swaying sideways |
Went to see Angel Oak. A big limb was down near by. |
Angel Oak Park was closed due to the storm, so we had to peek through the fence at it. |
Angel Oak from the fence. It's very large, very old & not far from the Airbnb. |
The proud dad relaxing at the beautiful beach house some of the guests rented for the weekend |
Steve & David at the beach house |
Hermine blew off the protective netting. Wind was fierce. |
Went sightseeing between the wedding festivities. Here's Sullivan Island lighthouse near Fort Moultrie |
Only U.S. lighthouse with an elevator. Love the shape. |

On to Morris Island & its lighthouse. Dolphins were cruising near the shore. |

Lots of driftwood on the beach |
Rehearsal dinner was held in a beautiful setting - Bowens Island restaurant |
You can rent kayaks near the restaurant |

The marshes (yes, I used insect repellent) |
Went to Patriot's Point. Howard checked out the ship charts - familiar thing for a former Navy damage control guy |
On the deck of the Yorktown |
I didn't know the U.S. Mint produced Medal of Honor coins. They were beautiful as all U.S. special coins are. |
Ravenel Bridge from Patriot's Point. Got a terrible bug bite taking this picture. |
Finally it was time for the reason we went to Charleston - wedding amidst the dripping Spanish moss |
While we were waiting for the ceremony to begin, an uninvited guest showed up |
More moss - Walnut Hill on John's Island |
Cory & Arielle listen to toasts at their marriage ceremony |
Cory & Arielle by Howard |
Reception: Cut with a fork brisket & BBQ; then Nichole's 360 tartlets. Arielle & Cory were impressed, as were we all! |
Some of the 360 tartlets made by Cory's sister |
Cory with Nicole and her 360 tartlets |
 Celebrating Nicole's accomplishment |
We were invited to write love letters to the bride & groom |
Typical Charleston scene - water everywhere |
Beautiful Ravenel bridge, one of a number in the Charleston area, but by far my favorite |
On our last day there, we had a nice long lunch with friend Mike halfway between where he lived & John's Island. |
That evening, I drove along West Ashley, filled with mansions. I peeked through a gate to see one. Next day - goodbye CHS! |
