Next day: Saint John, New Brunswick. Saw humble Partridge Island lighthouse when approaching the port. |
And then saw ruins of Courtenay Bay lighthouse. (Didn't count this on my lighthouse list.) |

Ahead of the ship I could see the faux lighthouses on the pier ahead. I didn't count these either. |
We rented a car to visit St. Martins Caves. |
High tide would come in 4 hours so we couldn't dawdle. Relieved to get there mid-tides & realize I could make it out & back. |
Fundy tides are legendary. There was a little water when I went, but when we drove by 2 hours later water was up to the opening. |
Howard stayed ashore to eat legendary scallops while I navigated through the occasional slime. |
Lichen on walls shows the height the water will reach later. Tide changes every 6 hours! |
Rocks, snails and a little bit of water |
The walk back. When I returned, I found Howard & got fish & chips at the Cave Restaurant. |
Then we drove through the covered bridge at St. Martins. Here are traps & buoys near bridge. |
My view as we drove through the covered bridge |
You had to look for the 2nd covered bridge, but it was there! |
A recently-constructed walkway provides a view of the two bridges, the faux lighthouse (didn't count) and boats |
Both bridges, faux lighthouse, no boats |
Then we drove part of the Fundy Trailway, stopping so I could see Fuller Falls |
A funky bridge led down to the falls. |
Drove a bit more to the suspension bridge, where I saw this guy! |

Oops! Ship had a minor accident in Saint John. A ladder had been left on the pier, and wasn't noticed until too late. |
Woke up to a very foggy morning in Bar Harbor. We're back in the USA! |
Some people didn't like the fog but hey, it's early morning in coastal Maine in October! I knew it would burn off. |
Our first day of tendering. First, however, we had to individually clear U.S. immigration on the ship. Luckily, it was fast. |
Tendered & walked a couple blocks to catch the free Explorer bus to Loop Road for rocky cliff views |
I was looking for what photographers call "Boulder Beach." I think I found it, but not positive. |
Hazy view to Otter Cliffs around 11:30 from Loop Road |
And then Jordan Pond took my breath away. I will never call Acadia over-rated again. |

Wood & reeds at Jordan Pond. I also saw a carriage road at the Pond. |
Just trees, Jordan Pond, Acadia. So beautiful. |
Couldn't stop taking pictures. Spent at least a half hour here - a lot for me! |

Back in Bar Harbor, I walked down West Street to see historic houses. |
Walked down to the water to see where you can walk out on a sandbar to Bar Island. The backyard of a nearby hotel was pretty. |

That night, we ate at Toscana. Love that Oceania's specialty restaurants don't charge. |
On different days, 3 chairs appeared near our inside cabin (off the main aisle). When #3 appeared, we had some fun. |
Next day was Portland. Here's a distant view of beautiful Portland Head light, early morning. |
 Spring Point Ledge lighthouse |
 Portland Breakwater lighthouse |
We pulled up near the huge, ugly, baby blue-hulled Anthem of the Seas. I DID, however, like the giraffe up top! |
View of Portland upon arrival 7 AM. |
Rainy day in Maine due to Hurricane Matthew. We drove up a familiar route to pretty Boothbay Harbor, mid-Coast. |
Maine is so beautiful, and it was made more beautiful by gorgeous fall colors. Here's a typical Maine scene. |
We drove up to Boothbay Harbor. The lawn at the pretty public library was completely carpeted with maple leaves. |
 Library statue. |
Rain and colorful leaves were plentiful that day, probably due to Hurricane Matthew |
We took CapN Fish's once a year cruise to see 8 lighthouses. Here's Boothbay Harbor while cruising out. |

Sequin Island used to have a tram up the hill, with scary history. Island is in one of the foggiest places in the U.S. |
Pond Island is Maine's oldest lighthouse |
Perkins Island was very cute. |
Fogbell building (I think) for Perkins. Loved the cranberry (or whatever) fields. |
Squirrel Point really could use some help. |

On the way back to Boothbay Harbor we passed this old bridge |
Scenery was wonderful. Hit the fall foliage time just right. |
Saw Hendricks Head lighthouse from a distance on the way back. |
Swing bridge on way back to BBH. |
Wave to the bridge operator! Back in Portland, Tess showed us the Old Port area & took us for tea & nibbles. |
