Boston! Early AM, Boston skyline |
Boston Strong tug pulled alongside |
Wasn't sure I'd see Boston lighthouse but I did. It's only manned LH left in U.S. |
Could barely see Long Island lighthouse with all the trees in the way |
Planes flew right overhead, and around us. |
Got a great view of Logan when coming in 7AM |
Docked around 7:30. It was cold & windy, perhaps because Hurricane Matthew was down south. |
A free shuttle dropped people off 2 blocks from Quincy Market |
Quincy Market has been a market for a L-O-N-G time. |
Nearby was Faneuil Hall with its grasshopper weather vane |
On 2nd floor was a beautiful, historical hall. An NPS employee explained its history & current uses. |
Beautiful clock on balcony, Faneuil Hall |

 Site of Boston Massacre |
These guys made me laugh. |
 Beautiful carousel |
Getting goofy with Red Auerbach |
I took the T to Harvard. First saw a huge line for Harvard Coop. Then went on campus, where I ran into a very noisy picket line. |
Never learned what they were striking for, but they sure were noisy, with cowbells, bullhorn, drums & chants |
Back on the ship, I saw this sailboat leaning as the huge Caribbean Princess ship left the harbor. |
Time to leave! Got a little better look at Graves compared to the morning look, plus saw Boston lighthouse again. |
We were treated to a fabulous sunset upon departure. You can just see Graves lighthouse in foreground. |
I got a postcard shot of the Boston skyline at sunset. |
During dinner we went through the Cape Cod Canal. Captain lowered part of bridge. A week prior, another ship bumped a light here |
Everyone's on stage for "Salute" show that evening. |
"Salute" (CD Ray Carr, HR Officer Lynn, Ambassador Iwona, Chief Purser, Concierge, Housekeeping Manager & others) |
Howard got a picture of our FABULOUS room steward Madi. Komang, her assistant (not pictured), was also awesome. |
Captain Hansen was a great captain (on left, with GM Yves S & others) |
Unknown staffer with Komang back right |
Next stop was Newport. Saw Rose Island lighthouse when we came in. |
We rented a car & drove over to Jamestown Island. Saw ruins of Gull Rock Lighthouse in the water. |

Local pilot had an armed escort! We had never seen this before. |
Sailed close enough to Beavertail lighthouse that I could get a 200 mm shot around sunset |
Our tender in Newport was practically empty for the first 5 minutes and then more people came. |
Got up 5:30 the next morning to see the SOL from 5th deck of ship. Tough shot. |
NYC skyline 6 AM from ship approaching cruise port at Hells Kitchen |
The city that never sleeps looked like it was mostly sleeping at 6. Howard easily picked out the Intrepid Museum. |
Got off the ship, took a cab to our hotel, checked our bags & walked around. The News building was nearby. |
Interesting to get 5 dollar coins as change for a subway card. Didn't know NYC was still doing that. |
Couldn't find Superman at the (Daily) News Building, but loved the globe. |
The U.N. was a short walk away |
Saw these guys on the sidewalk. |
Chrysler Building was close to the hotel too |

As I walked into Grand Central Terminal, Mary Chapin Carpenter's beautiful song ran through my head. |

Apple has a huge presence. I'm not an Apple fan, but I did enjoy using the balcony up there. |
In the afternoon, Howard wanted to relax so I headed down to see Calatrava's work at World Trade Center |
Of course I had to visit the 9-11 National Memorial for the 1st time. This is one of the 2 pools. |
 Inside Calatrava-designed Transportation/Retail Center |
One World Trade Center with Calatrava. He's a Spanish architect & I loved his work in Valencia. |

I also took the subway & tram to Roosevelt Island, with this view of Manhattan |

In the morning, we went to Central Park, 72nd Street entrance to see the "Imagine" memorial to John Lennon |
Strawberry Fields is designated a quiet zone, but "quiet" is relative in NYC. Tourists were many & a guy sang Lennon songs. |
Building photographed from near Bow Bridge, Central Park |
Beautiful Bow Bridge from lakeside |
Belvedere Castle from the lake. |
